We operate 15 terminals (deployed on 27 classified industrial sites). The HSE teams are committed to a continuous process aimed at improving measures and procedures relating to the security of property and the safety of people. Strict industrial health and safety standards are applied by all subsidiaries and joint-ventures. Efforts are focused on the safety of the facilities to prevent major accidents, as well as on personal, employee and external service provider safety, avoiding workstation accidents and preventing the safety of our customers and local residents from being compromised. Since 1994, we hold certificates based on international standards such as ISO14000, EMAS,ISO1800, CDI-T inspections and other related ones.
We continue to invest regularly in the facilities, upgrading them to comply with the strictest environmental and safety standards and to guarantee that people and their environment are protected (air, water, soil and urban areas located near the facilities). These investments guarantee the reliability of our operations and, as a result, our competitiveness. On average, our investments in this area for the last three years amounted €27 million per year.
To stay ahead, the safety culture must be felt and fed from within with a structural focus on enhancing our safety awareness. Work has been done for many years to improve safety at work. We work with safe installations, everyone has access to training and refreshment courses, and we work structurally to manage the residual risks that will always be present in one way or another. Our goal is to guarantee the safety and health of our employees, for everybody involved in our operations and the wider communities in which we operate. Working safely in a proactive way is key in all the actions we take.
Our policy is based on prevention and attaining objectives aimed at improving health and safety conditions. Our target, to achieve no accidents, is achievable, as our historic record of 12 years without accidents in any of our terminals proves. Training in health and safety at work is ongoing and cross-sectional, and includes both specifically operational aspects and emergency situations.
Safety is part of our DNA with an open “speak up” culture as part of this DNA. Safety observation tours are conducted by all our employees. During these observations open discussions take place to jointly take care of a healthy and safe workplace through small improvements. A positive safety approach with everyone’s involvement really works! Always Safe is not just a statement, it’s how we work and live!
This year, we are deploying the Life-Saving Rules Campaign as part of an action that we wanted to be common to all Rubis Terminal locations. These rules are the result of a consensus widely shared by the entire industry and therefore present themes that can be adapted to both professional practice and private practice. The content is also based on the expertise and experience we have within the group, in particular the information transmitted from all the sites. We are convinced that this campaign will be a tool contributing to increase the safety culture, allowing with our employees’ collaboration, to identify the dangerous situations and to notify them in a preventive way.
